Brooklyn Sidewalk Shed and Scaffolding builds pipe scaffolding on site, tube by tube, to fit the wall in front of it, and rents it in all five boroughs.
This is where we’re based. Being here gives us local knowledge of the DOB and of the neighborhoods, and in Brooklyn that counts for a lot. One block can have a narrow sidewalk with tree pits, a row of attached houses and a busy shopping strip at the corner, and the setup has to work for all three.
Scaffolding for facade, roof and window work. Sheds over residential and commercial sidewalks. Barriers at the curb. Temporary fencing around construction sites. We do this on rowhouses and brownstones, prewar walk-ups, mid-rise co-ops and storefront buildings, for owners, managers, boards and contractors. Tell us the address, and we’ll tell you which of these the building actually needs.
In 2019 we put up a sidewalk shed at 136 Chester Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11218. On a residential street like Chester Avenue, the shed’s job is to protect people walking below and keep a usable passage open while work goes on overhead.
You can find it in our gallery under the 136 Chester Ave project. If your building is on a similar street, send the address and tell us what’s happening above the sidewalk.
Stoops, cornices, brick fronts and sidewalks lined with tree pits. That’s a typical Brooklyn row. A flat facade suits frame scaffolding. Where a cornice or bay sticks out from the wall, pipe scaffolding can be built around it.
On a taller building, work over the sidewalk usually means a shed to keep the walkway covered and lit. See sidewalk shed installation.
On a shopping street, the shed, the barriers and the work zone all have to leave room for customers, deliveries and the signs over the stores. New construction on these streets usually needs temporary fencing rental around the lot as well.
Rowhouse, walk-up or storefront? Send the address and we’ll tell you what it needs.
As of November 2026.
DOT’s Holiday Construction Embargo runs from Sunday, November 15, 2026, to Saturday, January 2, 2027, from 6 AM to 11:59 PM each day. In Brooklyn it covers the Downtown Brooklyn area bounded by Tillary Street, Atlantic Avenue, Flatbush Avenue and Clinton Street. It also covers Church Avenue from Rockaway Parkway to McDonald Avenue, 13th Avenue from 39th to 86th Streets, 18th Avenue from 60th to 86th Streets, and Flatbush Avenue all the way from the Manhattan Bridge to the Belt Parkway.
On those streets, routine street and sidewalk work stops until DOT’s Office of Construction Mitigation and Coordination says yes. Emergency work is handled separately, with a DOT emergency number.
The NYC Marathon also brings temporary construction restrictions along its route through Brooklyn. The 2026 restrictions ended on November 1. Check DOT’s embargo notices for the 2027 dates and streets before scheduling work near the course.
Between 30th and 66th, or on a listed street? Then the calendar matters. Get installed before November 15, or start after January 2. Anything in between means waiting on DOT. Give us the address and we’ll check it.
Working on Flatbush, Church Avenue or in Downtown Brooklyn? DOT’s holiday embargo starts November 15.
Brooklyn follows the same citywide DOB and DOT requirements as the other boroughs. Scaffold and shed permits come from the DOB, and street and sidewalk permits come from DOT.
Brooklyn is home. Even so, our scaffolding company works in all five boroughs, and the team that builds your scaffold, shed, barriers and fence is the one that takes them down, whichever borough the building is in.
Yes. Brooklyn Sidewalk Shed and Scaffolding is based in Brooklyn and has been working since 2004. Our crews head out from here to jobs in all five boroughs.
Yes, but timing matters. Both streets are on DOT’s holiday embargo list this year. Between November 15, 2026, and January 2, 2027, routine street and sidewalk work there needs DOT’s sign-off, and emergency work needs a DOT emergency number. It’s usually easier to install before November 15 or after January 2.
Tell us the address, whether it’s a walk-up, a house or a commercial building, how many stories it has, what you need and when you’d like to start.
Call (929) 566-7313 with the address, or send it through the form with the building type, the services you need and your start date.
