Scaffolding and Sheds for Bronx Buildings

What we put up in the Bronx

Our base is in Brooklyn, and the Bronx is part of where we work. A Bronx job usually comes down to some mix of these: scaffolding rented and installed for facade, roof or window work, a shed over the sidewalk, barriers at the curb and fencing around the work. A six-story walk-up and a two-family house need very different setups, so we size it to the building in front of us.

Who we work with

Landlords and owners of apartment buildings. Property managers juggling several Bronx addresses at once. Owners of two-family houses who need the front done. Contractors working on storefronts along the big commercial streets.

The first call goes the same way for all of them. Give us the address, how tall the building is and what work you’re doing. From that, we can tell you if you need a scaffold, a shed, barriers or all three, and how the setup will fit on the block.

Cambreleng Avenue, Belmont

The block

Cambreleng Avenue runs through Belmont, close to Arthur Avenue. Its 2400 block, up near East 187th Street, shows a lot of Bronx housing in one short stretch. Public property records list 2408 Cambreleng Ave as a five-story building with 22 units, built in 1912. On the same block, 2420 Cambreleng is a two-story frame house for two families, built in 1920. Early-1900s walk-ups and small frame houses, side by side.

Our work there

In 2021 we provided scaffolding rental at 2404-2432 Cambreleng Ave, Bronx, NY 10458. It’s a neighborhood block rather than a single tower, and that’s the setting this page is about. The Cambreleng Ave project is in our gallery.

What Bronx Jobs Usually Involve

Prewar walk-ups

The classic five- or six-story walk-up with a flat brick front is a good fit for frame scaffolding, which goes up in standard sections. Fire escapes and cornices change that. When things stick out from the facade, pipe scaffolding can be built around them.

Small houses

Two- and three-story houses, frame or brick, need a lower and simpler setup. Whether you also need a shed depends on how high the work is and how close it is to the sidewalk. Our page on sidewalk shed installation explains it.

Buildings on busy corridors

On Fordham Road or the Grand Concourse, the sidewalk is packed and the curb never really empties. Barriers keep the work zone apart from traffic and double-parked trucks. See jersey barrier rental.

DOT Embargoes on Bronx Streets

As of November 2026.

The holiday embargo

From November 15, 2026, to January 2, 2027, DOT’s Holiday Construction Embargo runs every day from 6 AM to 11:59 PM. The Bronx list is long. It includes Arthur Avenue from Fordham Road to 184th Street/Crescent Avenue, East 187th Street from Crescent Avenue to Bathgate Avenue, all of East and West Fordham Road, the Grand Concourse from Burnside Avenue to 192nd Street, and the whole of Westchester Avenue.

On those streets, routine work in the street and on the sidewalk under DOT permits stops unless DOT’s Office of Construction Mitigation and Coordination approves it. Emergency work can go ahead with a DOT emergency number. DOT’s full embargo list has every location.

Event embargoes near Yankee Stadium

DOT can also freeze work around Yankee Stadium for major events, including post-season home games. The 2026 post-season embargo ended on November 1. The streets and dates change with each event, so check DOT’s current notices before scheduling work near the stadium.

Planning your Bronx start date

If the building fronts one of the listed streets, the simplest move is to have the scaffold and shed up before November 15, or to start after January 2. Anything that needs DOT’s permits during the embargo, from deliveries at the curb to work on the sidewalk, waits on DOT’s review first. Give us the address, and we’ll check it before we pick a date.

Job on Fordham Road, Arthur Avenue or another listed street? DOT’s holiday embargo starts November 15. Call to plan your dates.

Same Permits as Every Borough

The Bronx follows the same citywide requirements as the other boroughs. The Buildings Department handles scaffold and shed permits, and DOT handles anything that uses the street or sidewalk.

  • A sidewalk shed needs a DOB permit. Since early 2026, shed permits last 90 days and then have to be renewed, unless the shed is tied to new-building, enlargement or demolition work. See sidewalk shed installation.
  • A supported scaffold over 40 feet tall needs a DOB permit, and some shorter ones do too, depending on the type of scaffold and its load. See frame scaffolding.
  • Barriers in the roadway may need DOT authorization, depending on where they sit and how the work is set up. See jersey barrier rental.

One Team for the Scaffold, the Shed and the Street

We’re a scaffolding company based in Brooklyn, working in all five boroughs. In the Bronx, the team that rents you the scaffold also builds the shed, sets the barriers and fences the site. When the work is done, they come back and strip it all out. One company, from the first phone call to the last pipe off the block.

FAQ

Bronx FAQ

Both are on DOT's 2026 holiday embargo list. Between November 15, 2026, and January 2, 2027, routine street and sidewalk work under DOT permits there is suspended unless DOT's Office of Construction Mitigation and Coordination approves it. Emergency work can go ahead with a DOT emergency number. Usually the easiest route is to install before November 15 or after January 2.
